Right at the entrance to Munich Oktoberfest on the Matthias-Pschorr-Straße, next to the world famous Tobbogan, is the small tent “Zur Bratwurst.” The charming yet imposing two-story tent in the guise of a Franconian half-timbered house towers into the blue and white sky of Munich with its copper roof. From the kitchen and the street food counter waft the mouth-watering smells of juicy Schweinshaxe and sizzling, grilled bratwurst sausages.
In 2007, Werner Hochreiter took over the tent from the friendly and experienced host family from Munich’s Viktualienmarkt food market and renamedd it “Zur Bratwurst.” Host Werner Hochreiter knows how to cater to his guests. In the afternoon hours, Oktoberfest visitors can enjoy hearty brass band music, like polkas, Landler folk music or Zwiefacher dance music. When evening comes, the party begins with “Die Derbys” or “Wuidara Pistols” setting the tone.
The “Zur Bratwurst” menu has a lot to offer. In addition to the bratwurst sausages grilled on an open beechwood fire and Hochreiter’s famous Schweinshaxe, the menu offers many other delicious dishes. The grilled Bavarian steak with baked potatoes and homemade sauce is a real gourmet treat.
The “Zur Bratwurst” bar serves cocktails and, of course, the excellent beers of Hacker-Pschorr. A Hacker-Pschorr Sternweisse wheat bear on tap tastes especially great with a juicy Schweinshaxe. For light alcohol consumption, we recommend the Hacker-Pschorr Weisse Light and the delicious non-alcoholic Hacker-Pschorr Helle for anyone driving a vehicle.
